The association “Amici di Emmaus” launches its fundraising campaign in order to sustain the cost of a house that may be able to host Emmaus and all the daily activities of the guys and girls. 

 

The war in Ukraine forced the Emmaus team, youth with disabilities and many friends to leave everything and flee to Italy. In the beginning of March 2022, we first hosted them in Novazza, Val Seriana, and then in Milan. They immediately started rebuilding a daily routine, which was interrupted in Ukraine. The adults carried on Emmaus’ work, facing new challenges both in Italy and Ukraine. Meanwhile, our guys and girls engaged in starting or continuing their studies and jobs, learning Italian language or trying to settle in the new environment. 

 

The war continues and this is the reason why Emmaus has decided to stay in Italy for another year: Once again, we are looking for a home. 

Emmaus’ youth have lived most of their lives in an orphanage, with no safe place where they could be loved and accepted as they are. 

Their situation got even more dramatic with the uncertainty of the war. On a daily basis, our Ukrainian friends live under the pressure of a situation that is out of their hands. Also, they cannot evaluate the consequences in the future. 

So, our big challenge is to find a “true home” for Emmaus.

Emmaus’ youth

Emmaus’ youth are orphans, and many of them have disabilities. They spent their childhood and adolescence in Ukrainian orphanages, where no one looked after them, no one listened to them, no one nurtured their talents. When they got out of the orphanages, they found themselves abandoned in the world, unable to live an independent life. 

Emmaus NGO was founded with the aim to host and look after these guys, to be for them as a big family where they could be accompanied in the search of their own path.

 

Emmaus’ home 

 

Currently, Emmaus’ Home hosts a total of 18 people (13 youth and 5 adults). However, during the day, it is always open to other Emmaus’ guys (the ones hosted by Italian families), and to all the refugees hosted by the Ukrainian NGO. Emmaus also welcomes friends, volunteers and donors.
